What it takes to run the best large-office clean in New Zealand

Our work at the Foodstuffs North Island head office just won the 2026 CleanSweep Award for Commercial Offices over 5,000 m2. Here’s what earned it — and what it means if you manage a building.

Every so often a result tells you the system is working. This is one of those. The cleaning programme at the Foodstuffs North Island head office in Auckland has been named the best-run commercial office clean in the country, taking top honours in its category at the 2026 CleanSweep Awards.

The award isn’t decided on a pitch or a portfolio. It’s judged on a full on-site audit of the day-to-day operation — the standard staff, visitors and senior leadership actually experience every day.

An independent assessor spent an afternoon on site scoring the work across six weighted criteria, and the programme came away with an overall 98%, with perfect marks in five of the six areas.

Why this one stood out

The judges pointed to three things: consistency of standards right across a large, busy building; the strength of the health-and-safety systems behind the work; and an exceptional client relationship — the Foodstuffs facilities team rated the service 9 out of 10. On a site with more than 900 people through the doors each day and cleaning maintained around the clock, that consistency is the whole game.

They do what they say they're going to do — a breath of fresh air for the industry. Nothing is a problem, and I never have to raise an issue twice. Once it's sorted, it's sorted

What it means if you manage a building

An award is nice. What it actually reflects is a way of working that any office, facilities or property manager can expect from us. Standards are documented through weekly and monthly reporting and quarterly

reviews, so there’s an audit-ready record rather than a promise. Issues go to a dedicated Account Manager who owns the outcome — so they get fixed once and stay fixed. And the result is a building that looks and feels genuinely well cared for.

“This award belongs to the whole site team and to a client who sets a high bar and works with us to meet it,” said Kylie Brown, the Account Manager who leads the work on site. “It’s recognition that the standard here is among the best in the country — and we’re proud to present Foodstuffs’ head office that way every single day.”
